Sky is Mother, a Poem

A beam of sunlight through the clouds nuzzles my cheeks
like a mother to her child
I look up and see celestial afros for the clouds
soft and filled with stories untold
curling into themselves like secrets kept warm
they stretch across the blue,
unbothered and vast
the wind hums low
a lullaby only bones remember
and I feel it;
that ancient connection
that says you are held, even here
sky is mother
wide-armed and watching
never asking me to be anything but breathing
she wraps me in light
presses warmth into my skin
as if to say
you came from somewhere holy
do not forget
and even when she weeps
gray and heavy with rain
it is not sorrow
but release
she teaches me this too
how to pour without shame
how to darken like the night
and still be divine
I stand beneath her
small but not insignificant
a child of her endless body
and when the sun slips low
and she tucks herself into dusk
with every whistle of her songs
I am reminded that I am here
and we are one
