Soul of Fire

When you look in my eyes

What do you see,

Is it the woman before you

Or is it a perception of who you want me to be?

Do you see the pain of change

Or a fear to remain the same?

Is it a pure entity

Or a tarnished soul?

Do you see the fire that burns within

From the depths of my soul,

The quiet flames kept hidden

Beneath composure and control?

Can you see the battles I've survived

Without a weapon or plan,

The nights I stitched myself together

Just to rise and try again?

When I smile,

Do you mistake it for peace,

Or can you feel the exhaustion

Of pretending wounds don’t bleed?

Do you see resilience in my eyes

Or do you mistake it for desperation dressed in grace?

Can you recognize my healing

Although I'm still carrying yesterday’s weight?

You may never recognize

Softness wrapped around sorrow,

Or the strength buried beneath glow.

And if you look,

Beyond desire, beyond skin,

You’ll see I am still becoming…

A soul learning how to soar again.
