Same City.
Different Experience.
Help Us Produce Our Next Cultural Conversation Between Charlotte Transplants vs. Native Charlotteans
At SISTAH Magazine, we create social experiments and cultural conversations that transform real dialogue into journalism, film, and community impact.
Through our production series, Our True Colors, this episode brings together Charlotte natives and transplants for a 2 v 2 conversation exploring the tensions, perspectives, and realities shaping one of America’s fastest-growing cities.
From gentrification and rising costs to culture, opportunity, identity, community, and the changing social landscape of Charlotte, this conversation examines how rapid growth impacts the people who have always called the city home—and those newly arriving to build a life within it.

ABOUT THE SEGMENT
Charlotte Transplants vs. Native Charlotteans
As Charlotte rapidly grows into one of America’s fastest-changing cities, we’re asking a deeper question: do transplants and native Charlotteans experience the city differently?
This cultural conversation brings together Charlotte natives and transplants from different backgrounds and generations to examine growth, opportunity, community, culture, and the changing identity of the city.
As conversations unfold, participants confront topics like gentrification, affordability, networking culture, Southern identity, economic opportunity, displacement, and the social divide between longtime residents and newcomers.
Has Charlotte’s growth benefited everyone equally? Are native voices being preserved as the city evolves? And how has rapid development reshaped the culture, relationships, and realities of everyday life in Charlotte?
