Crowns High

A Call to the Daughters of the Motherland

Crowns high.

Lift your eyes

toward the sky

and smile.

Exhale.

Tell yourself:

I am worthy.

I am holy.

A being of light

made whole.

Stand bold

in that truth.

Remember that you deserve

to heal,

to reveal your heart,

and live

in its fullness.

Be not ashamed

of your imperfections.

You are perfectly imperfect

in all of your excellence.

Remember:

It is your birthright

to stand with purpose—

on purpose.

To live in abundance

without fear.

My dear,

you are

and have always been

whole.

Within you

are the tools

waiting patiently

for your permission

to unfold.

Participate

in that unfolding

and behold

that you were always greater

than you believed.

You have always been

of royal descent.

You are.

To stand in our truth

is to honor ourselves

and to honor our neighbors.

Not dimming our light—

but shining it

so brightly

that it opens the hearts

of the forgotten

to do the same.

It is time

to step forth

into our birthright.

Time has passed

for playing in the shadows.

We must rise

and show the way

back to the tribe.

No longer

can we silence our story

out of fear

that our crowns

will stop shining.

We are the redeemed.

Queens who sacrificed.

Foot soldiers

who held the line.

Withholding our battle cry

serves no one.

We must sing.

The rhythm moves

through our bones.

Healing

within our songs.

Freedom

within our songs.

Overcoming

within our songs.

Growth

within our songs.

So sing on.

Behind the Title: “Crowns High”

“Crowns High” is both an affirmation and a call to remembrance. Throughout history, Black women have carried the weight of survival, leadership, healing, and creation—often while being asked to shrink, assimilate, or dim their light.

This piece is a reminder that our strength, beauty, and resilience are not accidents; they are inheritances.

The phrase Crowns High speaks to the quiet dignity and divine lineage that lives within the daughters of the Motherland. It is an invitation to stand fully in our worth, to embrace both our healing and our power, and to remember that when one woman rises in truth, she often lights the way for others to do the same.

At its heart, this poem is about returning to the tribe—reclaiming our stories, our voices, and the sacred rhythm that has always lived within our songs.
