A Black Queen's Responsibility

Across social media, a storm of gender-driven debates are reshaping how black men and women see one another. I'm not sure about you, but I am exhausted. From viral think pieces, to heated comment sections. The digital “gender wars” create a narrative that pits us against each other, diminishing the deep legacy of love, partnership, and unity that has always rooted our community. But beyond the noise, black love is still blooming, evolving, and holding strong.
As a poet, observer of society, and a black woman sifting through the chaos, I wrote a poem to redirect our attention to the truth: It is our God-given responsibility to provide power, love, and joy to our black men in every season. It will be returned to us tenfold. Always has and always will.
From my published book of poetry, Lost Between the Sheets, I present to you a powerful poem titled, "A Black Queen's Responsibility", a love letter to our black kings, as a reminder that many of us still and will love them unconditionally.

I cannot fail you.
The system has failed you.
A system that lied when it said it would serve and protect you.
The system that manipulated your own brother against you.
The spirit of racism heightens our enemies' falsely worn egos
With the intent to instill fear so that they can control
You.
To unravel you.
To break you.
To dismantle you.
But they cannot erase you.
Because God created you
And because I cannot fail you.
When you needed someone to be your Queen, you were misunderstood.
Mistreated.
Abandoned.
And left confused.
I am no fool. I know you aren’t perfect, but you're worth it.
And the way that God created a black man for me
I clasp my hands while I'm down on my knees
Submissive and open to a deeper understanding
Your presence is undeniably commanding
I crave the innermost version of you.
Black and unapologetic.
Devoted lover to his family
And the circles he dwells in
Above men. Angelic.
Yet, earthbound
While walking on spiritual ground
My instructor.
My protector.
I implore to hear your laughter
Every chapter
My king, I cannot fail you
We are living in a world that has been shaped to abase you
Our minor issues don't compare to this repulsive war
Of race,
Of political dismay
A diversion from our own true purpose
Our resiliency is empowering
We become Kings and Queens so naturally
Hence, how "you and I" became "we"
with ease
I cannot leave
So here I am
And here is where I'll be
With love,
Your Black Queen
