Born of Her Voice

My origin story is not a place.
It is my mother.

Before I ever understood the world, I understood her voice.
Before I knew the meaning of strength, I saw it in the way she carried life on her shoulders without asking anyone to lighten the load. My first home was not a house or a neighborhood.
It was the steady presence of a woman who made space for me to exist, grow, and become.
My mother taught me womanhood long before she ever spoke the word. She taught it in the way she kept going when things were hard. In the quiet sacrifice that children rarely notice until they grow older and look back with wiser eyes. In the moments when she stood firm, even when life tried to break her.
Womanhood, through her, looked like resilience.
It looked like love that did not disappear when things were messy. It looked like protection, warmth, and sometimes hard truths when I needed it most. My mother did not just raise me; she rooted me.
From her I learned that womanhood is not something fragile.
It is the ability to create life, to nurture it, to guide it, and sometimes to release it so it can find its own way. It is patience. It is intuition. It is knowing when to fight and when to simply stand still and let your presence speak.
My mother did all of that without ever asking for applause. And yet, every part of who I am carries her fingerprints.
When people ask where I come from, they may expect the name of a city or a street.
But the truth is much simpler.
I come from a woman who loved me enough to shape the foundation of my life.
My mother is my first home.
And she will always be the place I began.

😭 Beautiful origin story. Happy Mother's Day, Queen.
